Summer is the perfect season to hit the reset button! Not just for your lifestyle, but for your home and routines too. With longer days and a little more free time, it’s the ideal opportunity to declutter, organize, and create a space that inspires productivity and relaxation. Whether you’re managing a busy family household or simply trying to keep your schedule in check, these summer organizing tips will help you stay on track.
Here are some simple, effective tips for decluttering and organizing your life this summer, so you can enjoy more of what matters — and less of the mess.
You don’t have to overhaul your entire home in one weekend. Choose one area to start: a junk drawer, your fridge, or even your inbox! Small wins build momentum and make organizing less overwhelming. Set a timer for 15-20 minutes — when it rings, stop. Short bursts make it easier to stay consistent!
My favorite way to declutter is to use the three-box method; one for keep, one for donate, and one for trash. Before you start rearranging your things, ask yourself what you actually use. If something hasn’t been used in the last year, it’s probably time to donate or toss it. The more you declutter, the less you’ll have to manage later!
Summer schedules will often bring its own challenges. Kids home from school, travel plans and various outdoor activities. Adjust your organizing systems to match the season. Set up a drop zone for pool gear, a picnic-ready pantry, or a rotating chore chart that fits your new routine.
Don’t forget — your digital life deserves attention too! Summer is a great time to back up your photos, clean out your downloads folder, and unsubscribe from all of those junk emails. A digital declutter can help you feel more in control and less distracted.
Get the whole household involved! Teaching your kids (or spouse!) to organize their toys or set up a “summer station.” The station can include: sunscreen, hats, water bottles and golf clubs can be both fun and functional.
Once you’ve done all the hard work, spend a few minutes each week maintaining it. My suggestion is to use Sunday as your reset day. Toss expired food, wipe down your surfaces, and reset your spaces — keeps clutter from creeping back in.
A well-organized home and schedule can make your summer smoother and more enjoyable. By taking the time to declutter, set up systems, and commit to small habits, you’ll create a space that supports all the fun and freedom this season has to offer.
